St. Patrick’s Day

  1. Who is St. Patrick?
He was one of Christianity's most known figures from Ireland. He was also the patron saint from the fifth century. Born in Roman Britain.

     2. What is the purpose of St. Patrick’s Day?
Image result for st patrick's dayThe purpose of St. Patrick's Day is to celebrate the Roman Catholic feast day of the patron saint of Ireland (Maewyn). He was a very important figure to the people of Ireland although, he himself wasn’t Irish.

    3. Why is St. Patrick's Day designed when it is?
St. Patrick's Day is designed to be on the 17th of March because it's the day St. Patrick passed away. In the early 17th century was when it became a feast day.

    4. Why a certain Color on St. Patrick’s Day?
We are lead to wear a certain color on St. Patrick's Day because the color green has been associated with Ireland since at least the 1640’s. Another thing is that Green is one of the colors in Ireland’s tri-color flag. The color green has been used in several Irish revolutionary groups flags throughout history.

Fun Facts:

  • He was kidnapped from Roman Britain and brought to Ireland as a slave
  • Blue was actually the first color associated to St. Patrick’s day according to some people.
  • St. Patrick used the three leaf clover (or shamrock) to explain the Trinity
  • Wear green on March 17th or get pinched
  • The practice of dyeing the river green started in Chicago in 1962, when city officials decided to dye a portion of the Chicago River green.
